New Aquavitro Products:

  • Purfiltrum

Description

purfiltrum™ is a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble organic impurities from water 5 to 10 times faster and more completely than all other competing products. It is the highest capacity organic filtration resin on the market outperforming even Purigen®, binding 10 to 15% more organic material. purfiltrum™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise be converted into these harmful chemicals. purfiltrum™ will not reduce the levels of trace elements, and it significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. purfiltrum™ progressively darkens as it removes impurities, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach per recommended regeneration instructions. purfiltrum™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use.

Directions

Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag such as The Bag™. Each 225 mL treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads to dark brown or black.

Regeneration:

Once it is exhausted, it can be easily regenerated with a solution of bleach and water. Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area, away from children. Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach (non-scented, no dyes, do not use a splash-less bleach). Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 3 tablespoons of alpha™, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. For freshwater use, soak beads for 4 hours in a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer (Discus Buffer® or Neutral ReCollapsible water jug

  • Phosfiltrum

 Description

phosfiltrum™ is a specially formulated, high-density, granular ferric oxide (GFO). It will rapidly remove phosphates and silicates from both freshwater and saltwater and will not release them back into your aquarium. It is much harder and consequently much less fragile than other GFOs, so it will not break apart into fine particles in your tank. It has the highest binding capacity of any phosphate remover on the market, so it will last much longer before it needs to be replaced. Its distinctive dark brown color identifies it as the premier product in the industry.

Directions

For best results, phosfiltrum™ should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Use of a filter bag is recommended. Use 50 g (¼ cup) for every 300 L (75 US gallons) saltwater or 600 L (150 US gallons) freshwater.

Leave product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrations with either MultiTest® Phosphate or MultiTest® Silicate. If the concentration of the component you are trying to decrease has not dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, then replace the phosfiltrum™, otherwise leave in place until levels begin to climb again. As long as concentrations remain under control, the product is not exhausted. Over treating is not recommended. phosfiltrum™ is not an exchange resin and does not release anything into the water. It does not leach phosphate or silicate back into the water and may be removed, dried, and returned to service until exhausted. Continuous use of small quantities is better than intermittent use of larger quantities.

  • Mineralize

Description

General hardness is the divalent metal cation content of the water. In most water this is comprised primarily of calcium and magnesium. Soft water has a low concentration of dissolved divalent cations, hard water a high concentration.

The native environment of some plants (Cryptocoryne, Aponogeton, etc.) is soft, whereas others (Sagittaria subulata, Riccia fluitans, etc.) are more acclimated to hard water. In order to replicate these environments it may be necessary to adjust hardness.

mineralizeâ„¢ is a blend of divalent salts designed to restore or increase general hardness.

Directions

To raise mineral content/general hardness (GH) by 1 meq/L (2.8dH), use one inner capful (7 mL) for every 15 US gallons (56 L) when setting up an aquarium or when making water changes (add to new water). Thereafter, use once a week (or as needed). This dose raises GH by 1 meq/L (2.8 dGH). Target a lower general hardness for soft water, a higher value for hard water. Target a lower general hardness for soft water, a higher value for hard water.

Note: The aquavitro cap offers multiple dosing solutions depending on the size of your system. Each inner cap thread is approximately 2 mL. The inner cap contains 7 mL, while the outer ring contains 28 mL (35 mL when both are filled to the level of the inner cap.) When filled to the top, the cap contains 49 mL.

  • Premier

Description

premier™ is a conditioner specifically designed for the planted aquarium. It removes chlorine and chloramines. premier™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.

premier™ is a concentrated solution of potassium thiosulfate which removes both chlorine and chloramines. Although a thiosulfate-based conditioner is not recommended for saltwater aquaria because of the ammonia produced when it reacts with chloramines, it is perfect for the planted aquarium. The ammonia produced from chloramine by premier™ is predominantly in the ammonium form, and is thus rapidly scavenged by plants*.

Directions

Use one inner capful (7 mL) of premier™ for every 70 US gallons (265 L) of water. premier™ may be added to the aquarium directly, but it is best if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. For exceptionally high chloramines concentrations, a double dose may be used.

  • Seed

Description

aquavitroÂŽ seed™ will rapidly and safely establish the aquarium biofilter in freshwater and marine systems, thereby preventing the #1 cause of fish death: “new tank syndrome”. seed™ is formulated specifically for the aquarium and contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria which facilitate the breakdown of waste organics, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites.

The bacteria used in competing products are inherently unstable. The conditions necessary for their growth and development fall into a very narrow range of temperatures, pH, organic loads, etc. When any of these parameters are not strictly within the proper range, the bacterial culture quickly crashes and dies. seed™ does not contain any of these short-lived bacteria. The species of bacteria in seed™ are a unique blend, specifically developed for hardiness and their ability to adapt to a wide variety of environmental conditions. The strains thrive in both fresh and saltwater.

seed™ contains both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, a blend found in no other product. Additionally, seed™ contains facultative bacterial strains which are able to adapt to either aerobic or anaerobic conditions.

Directions

Shake well before use. Turn off UV/ozone. Use 5 mL for each 40 L (10 US gallons) on the first day with a new aquarium. Then use 5 mL for each 80 L (20 US gallons) daily for 7 days.

Fish and other aquatic species may be introduced at any time as long as dosage is maintained for 7 days. For optimum biofilter performance, use 5 mL for each 80 L (20 US gallons) once a month or with each water change and whenever introducing new fish or whenever medicating an aquarium.

  • Remediation

Description

aquavitro® remediation™ uses bio-augmentation, a natural and non-chemical method, to improve water quality. It provides bacteria that break down excess food, waste and detritus in freshwater and marine systems. It will also reduce excess nutrients (e.g. ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and phosphates) that may fuel the growth of nuisance and disease-causing organisms.

The bacteria species in remediation™ thrive in fresh or salt water and can utilize a wide range of organic compounds, including fats that can cause unsightly films. Unlike traditional nitrifying bacteria, this bacterial blend can adapt to harsh or low oxygen environments and continue to multiply and improve water conditions. Biopolymers produced by established bacterial colonies trap particulates and increase water clarity. The species of bacteria in remediation™ have been developed for use in aquaculture, where sludge and excess organics must be controlled to avoid disease and livestock losses. This bacterial blend is hardy enough to survive harsh aquaculture conditions, and it will thrive in your aquarium.

Directions

Shake well before use. Turn off UV/ozone. Use 5 mL for each 40 L (10 US gallons). Then use a maintenance dose of 5 mL for each 80 L (20 US gallons) with additions of livestock or the disruption of the biofilter through cleaning or medications.

Antibiotics should be removed with fresh carbon and a water change before adding bacteria. Allow 2 or 3 days for the bacteria to become established before using UV sterilizers or ozone. Recurring problems with high nutrients can indicate overstocking, overfeeding or inadequate filtration.

Product shelf life is 4 years from date of manufacture, see expiration date below.

  • Aquasolum: Black Humate

Description

aquasolum™ is a lightweight, porous substrate derived from humate. Humate contains most of the known trace elements necessary for the development of plant life because, in its original state, it was plant life. Organic humate enhances root development and promotes chelation, a process by which insoluble matter is gradually processed for plant utilization. As a result, humate contains valuable plant nutritional substances not found in chemical fertilizers. Additionally, its tendency to lower pH and soften water makes it ideal for keeping freshwater shrimp.

Directions

Although it is pre-washed, it may become dusty in transit and require rinsing before use to remove any residual dust. To determine the number of bags required for your aquarium, please note that each bag (2 kg, 4.4 lbs) occupies a volume of approximately 1,630 cm3 (100 cu. in.). To determine your desired volume multiply tank width by length by desired depth.

TIPS: When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing aquasolum™ bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the substrate bed. Initial cloudiness is normal. To remove cloudiness, use mechanical filtration (such as filter floss). Use Clarity® to accelerate clearing.
