Day Three: Handheld Scrub Brushes
We are on Day Three in this series and today we are talking about Small Handheld Scrub Brushes. We covered siphons, scrapers and some of you may ask why we need a scrub brush in addition. Scrub brushes are a vital part of your Maintenance Bucket! They can be as simple as an old tooth brush (cleaned of course) or as complex as a waterproof automatic brush. The bristles of any scrub brush aid in the removal of algae from:
- Pumps and Powerheads
- Heaters and Thermometers
- Protein Skimmer Necks
- Rocks and coral bases
- Silicone corners of aquariums and more!!!
Here at New Wave, we have at least two different sizes of brushes, each a different size and with different bristle density in every maintenance bucket. We use toothbrushes for smaller spaces and algae removal from coral bases and rocks as they are easier to control without knocking things over and are gentle enough to not damage corals (use with light pressure). For a coarser algae, we use a larger, stiffer bristled brush to aid in removal and cleaning.
Today, I ask…What type of scrub brushes do you like best and why?? Let’s share the secrets of algae removal.
